Storyteller!

This morning your students were treated to a storyteller!! Dr. Mattie Brown, local storyteller, children's book author, and retired educator, visited JME to tell first grade a few stories! Dr. Brown told the students two stories. The first was about an elephant named Eliyis who always wanted to be the leader. He got himself stuck in a tree playing follow the leader and all of his friends left him there. A lion comes along and talks with him about how he got stuck. He learned to listen to his friends and take turns after talking with the lion. The second was a story about kindness. Three girls went snail-hunting. The first two girls promised the River snails on their return if he granted safe passage across. The third girl promised chicken, yams, and ham! The first two girls gave him snails on their return, but the third could not make good on her promise. The River kept her there until her mother could bring what she promised. She learned not to make a promise she couldn’t keep and to tell the truth. Dr. Brown also shared that the Savannah Children’s Book Festival will be November 16th. She will be there selling her two books, as well as many other children’s authors.
